About the Department
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology, Vellore, was established in 1990 and has grown into one of the institution’s major engineering departments.
The department offers B.E. programmes in both full-time (120 intake) and part-time (40 intake) under Anna University, Chennai. It also offers M.E. Applied Electronics, strengthening advanced learning and research.
The department focuses on strong academic foundations with practical exposure through labs, seminars, industrial visits, training, and project work. It covers core and emerging domains like DSP, VLSI, Embedded Systems, IoT, AI & ML, Wireless Communication, and more.
Well-equipped labs and modern tools like MATLAB, FPGA platforms, and embedded systems ensure hands-on learning. The department aims to create skilled, ethical, and industry-ready engineers.

Programme Outcomes
- ❖ Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and Electronics and Communication Engineering specialization to solve complex engineering problems.
- ❖ Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems to arrive at substantiated conclusions.
- ❖ Design / Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and develop systems, components, or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health, safety, culture, society, and the environment.
- ❖ Investigation of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and appropriate methods including design of experiments, analysis, and interpretation of data to investigate complex engineering problems and draw valid conclusions.
- ❖ Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modelling, to complex engineering activities with an understanding of their limitations.
- ❖ The Engineer and the World: Analyze and evaluate societal and environmental aspects while solving complex engineering problems for sustainable development.
