Right to Information (RTI) Act - 2005

The Right to Information Act, 2005 empowers citizens to access information under the control of public authorities, promoting transparency and accountability in governance.

About the RTI Act

The Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act-2005) has been enacted by the Parliament of India and came into force on 15 June 2005. The Act provides citizens with the right to obtain information from public authorities, thereby ensuring transparency and accountability.

Universities and Colleges established by Parliament, State Legislature, or substantially financed by the Government are covered under this Act. As per the Higher Education Department, Government of Tamil Nadu and UGC/AICTE guidelines, Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology, Vellore implements the provisions of the RTI Act, 2005.

Application Procedure

  • ❖ Application may be typewritten or neatly handwritten with the heading "Application under RTI Act 2005".
  • ❖ Applications may be submitted in English or Tamil.
  • ❖ No prescribed application format (proforma) is required.
  • ❖ Applications will not be rejected for not being in a prescribed format.
  • ❖ Address the application to the Public Information Officer.
  • ❖ Mention your questions clearly and point-wise.
  • ❖ Avoid vague questions, technical terms or unnecessary legal language.
  • ❖ Attach the prescribed Government RTI fee in the form of IPO/DD or other approved mode.
  • ❖ Include a declaration stating that you are an Indian Citizen.
