About the Department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at TPGIT, established in 1990, stands as one of the premier departments of the institute, dedicated to nurturing innovation, technical excellence, and holistic student development.
With a strong foundation in core mechanical sciences and a forward-looking approach to emerging technologies, the department has consistently produced graduates who excel in academia, industry, and research.

Excellence in developing self-reliant mechanical engineers with a sense of professional responsibility and leadership skills by equipping them to contribute in multidisciplinary domains and socio-economic development.
Mission
- M1 - To provide excellence in academics with ample opportunities for knowledge acquisition and enabling the students to adapt to the changing global needs.
- M2 - To mould the young dynamic minds with leadership qualities for providing innovative solutions to technological challenges for the benefit of society.

Programme Educational Objectives
- PEO1 - Effectuating success in careers by exploring with the design, digital and computational analysis ofengineering systems, experimentation and testing, smart manufacturing, technical services, and research.
- PEO2 - Amalgamating effectively with stakeholders to update and improve their core competencies and abilities to ethically compete in the ever-changing multicultural global enterprise.
- PEO3 - To encourage multi-disciplinary research and development to foster advanced technology, and to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship in order to compete successfully in the global economy.
- PEO4 - To globally share and apply technical knowledge to create new opportunities that proactively advances our society through team efforts and to solve various challenging technical, environmental and societal problems.
- PEO5 - To create world class mechanical engineers capable of practice engineering ethically with a solid vision to become great leaders in academia, industries and society.
Programme Outcomes
- ❖ Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization as specified in WK1 to WK4 respectively to develop to the solution of complex engineering problems.
- ❖ Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions with consideration for sustainable development. (WK1 to WK4)
- ❖ Design/Development of Solutions: Design creative solutions for complex engineering problems and design/develop systems/components/processes to meet identified needs with consideration for the public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon, culture, society and environment as required. (WK5)
- ❖ Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge including design of experiments, modelling, analysis & interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions. (WK8).
- ❖ Engineering Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering & IT tools, including prediction and modelling recognizing their limitations to solve complex engineering problems. (WK2 and WK6)
- ❖ Engineer & Society
- ❖ The Engineer and The World: Analyze and evaluate societal and environmental aspects while solving complex engineering problems for its impact on sustainability with reference to economy, health, safety, legal framework, culture and environment. (WK1, WK5, and WK7).
- ❖ Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics, human values, diversity and inclusion; adhere to national & international laws. (WK9)
- ❖ Individual and Collaborative Team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse/multi-disciplinary teams.
- ❖ Communication: Communicate effectively and inclusively within the engineering community and society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations considering cultural, language, and learning differences
- ❖ Project Management and Finance: Apply knowledge and understanding of engineering management principles and economic decision-making and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, and to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

Professional Chapters
The ASHRAE TPGIT Student Chapter was established in June 2022 and inaugurated on 24th February 2023 under the Mechanical Engineering Department.
The chapter promotes knowledge and professional development in HVAC, energy efficiency, sustainable buildings, refrigeration, and indoor air quality.
Students actively participate in workshops, seminars, industrial visits, exhibitions, and international conferences organized by ASHRAE and industry partners.
These activities provide practical exposure, enhance technical and professional skills, strengthen industry interaction, and support internship and placement opportunities in the HVAC sector.
